FAQs
- The AlumiConn looks big – Does it fit into boxes easily?
AlumiConn is no larger in volume than a traditional twist-on. Most people are surprised when they see how small it is. AlumiConn was designed specifically to pigtail copper and aluminum residential wire. - Do you sell AlumiConn connectors in my local area?
AlCopStore is an online distributor and we can get you AlumiConn connectors in as little as 1 business day through our online store. However, if you’d like to find out if there is a distributor in your area for local pick-up, you will need to call King Innovation (who manufacturers the product for us) at 800-633-0232 and ask them. - Can I use the AlumiConn in a panel/breaker/fuse box?
For specifics, please check with your local authorities on this issue as it can vary from municipality to municipality. Or, you can use a breaker or bus bar that is dual rated for both aluminum and copper wire. - Do you ship to Canada?
Yes, we do. Please note that we ship using the US Postal Service so you don’t get charged an extra duty tax. Shipping takes approximately 1 week. You can get started here. - What size conductors does AlumiConn handle?
AlumiConn handles 12-10 solid aluminum and 18-10 solid or stranded copper. AlumiConn usually won’t work for larger appliances like dishwashers and washer/dryers because the wire is too big (usually size 6). However, some argue that the larger gauge wire doesn’t present much of a risk anyway. For more information, please visit our AlumiConn product information page. - I’m having technical difficulty completing my order. Any suggestions?
Usually, when people call us with order problems it’s because their billing address doesn’t match the address where their credit card statement is mailed to. Please make sure your billing address coincides with the address for the credit card. If you’re still having problems, please call us at 866-826-2256. - Do I need to be licensed at all to install AlumiConn?
No, no license is required to install AlumiConn. - Is AlumiConn UL and/or CSA listed?
Yes, AlumiConn is UL 486 C listed to meet U.S. and Canadian specifications as a pressure screw type wire connector. You can see a screen shot of the listing here. Or, to see the listing for yourself, please visit UL’s online certification directory where you can conduct a search and see the listing. (Follow these steps to see the listing: Search “King Innovation” under company name, then click on the file name link next to “Wire Connectors and Soldering Lugs.” - Do you offer special pricing for bulk orders?
Yes, for orders of 1,000 AlumiConn connectors or more, please submit a quote request on our quote page and we’ll reply with custom pricing. - Do you sell a torque screwdriver?
As of right now, we do not (although we did at one point). We tested a few torque screwdrivers in-house and found Wiha models tested accurately. If you decide to get a torque screwdriver, you will want to be sure you get one that can handle the 2 different torquing requirements for AlumiConn installation: 10 and 15 in/lbs. Note: For specific torque settings, please see our AlumiConn installation instructions page. - What is your return policy?
Please click the following link for more information on our return policy. - How much does shipping cost?
Our shipping prices depend on two things: 1) How many AlumiConn connectors you’re purchasing and 2) Where we’re shipping them to. In order to find out what your shipping costs are, please go to our order page and put the quantity of AlumiConns you’d like to purchase in the shopping cart. Next, fill out the shipping and billing information and click “Continue to Checkout” (Note: You will NOT be charged anything yet). On the following page, you’ll see your shipping rates unique to your order. We ship all US-based orders via UPS and all Canadian orders via The United States Postal Service. - How many AlumiConn connectors go in a box?
The number of connectors you put in a box will vary from box to box, depending on how it’s wired. Typically though, you’ll have 3 AlumiConn connectors per box: 1 for your hot wires, 1 for your nuetrals, and 1 for ground. (Note: Some customers don’t use the AlumiConn for their ground wires since it doesn’t consistently carry current, but you’ll want to check with your local codes and regulations to determine if that’s appropriate for you). - Which insurance providers accept AlumiConn as a safe remedy to repair aluminum wiring?
There are several insurance companies who provide coverage on aluminum wired homes with AlumiConn connectors. For a complete (and growing) list of providers, click here. - Do you offer 2 or 6 port AlumiConn connectors?
As of this point, we only offer a 3-port AlumiConn connector.
